GRA:We tied you in Grand Rapids (Wyoming).Woman killed by BF at 430am New Years morning. This part of Wyoming is really slummy Grand Rapids--just a city limits sign a couple blocks away is the barely technical difference of cities.
(WOOD) — Police are investigating a homicide that happened on Wyoming’s north side early New Year’s Day.

Friends and family identified the woman killed as 25-year-old Leticia Vela, who went by Letii.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 2100 block of Lee Street SW, just east of Lamar Park, around 4:45 a.m. Monday, according to a release from the Wyoming Department of Public Safety.

Vela was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say she had been shot by a 37-year-old man who also lived at the home. The suspect left the home on foot after the shots were fired.

“(Officers) were able to gather information quickly at the scene and were able to set up a perimeter,” Wyoming DPS Lt. Timothy Pols said. “They utilized a K-9 to track the suspect. The suspect was located approximately a mile away from the incident location.”

Police also recovered a weapon in that area.

Further details on the shooting were not immediately released, but police say it was an isolated incident.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity pending arraignment — which could happen as soon as Tuesday — and said the relationship between the victim and suspect is under investigation.

“I don’t know all those circumstances or the exact nature of the suspect and the victim other than the face that they did live together,” Pols said.
